I spent the weekend of Nov 16-18 back at my alma mater Hampton University speaking to over 400 young people.
My day began with a presentation to Hampton's Talent Search program of 5th-8th grade students. Most of these students were first generation college prospects so it was fun talking to them and hearing their dreams for what they want to do with their lives. I want to thank Ms Patra Johnson for setting that up and inviting me down to speak. That chicken box was on point!
After the football game I spoke to The HU Leadership Fellows and shared a few chapters from my upcoming book "My Little Black Book Of Leadership". Judging from their responses, this book is going to be even bigger than I imagined (and I don't know how that's even possible). I wish we had the Leadership Institute when I went to Hampton.
The main event for the day was the High School Leadership Summit Banquet. I was the Keynote Speaker for the closing banquet and had a ball. I met a lot of great high school students from all across the country. I think they really received my message and are set on becoming successful college students and making their parents proud.
I met some cool Hampton students as well and loved the hospitality I was shown all weekend. Big thanks yous go to the Director of the Leadership Institute, Opel Jones for inviting me down and taking such good care of me.
The night ended with the basketball game in which Hampton unfortunately loss. The good thing is I don't think too many people noticed because the dancers were OFF DA HOOK!
It's always good to go back to my second home and I must say this was one of my best visits in recent times.
Well I have a book to finish writing so I gotta go.
Ryan
